A petition demanding a public meeting over plans to build an industrial recycling plant in Raynes Park was delivered to developers on 26 January 2009.

Opposition is growing over the plans, which would see the plant built on the Rainbow Park industrial estate next to Raynes Park station.

Nearly 250 people have so far signed the Liberal Democrat petition calling for a meeting to discuss the potential environmental damage that could be caused by the plant and increased traffic around the industrial estate.

Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Wimbledon, Shas Sheehan, said: "The proposals are yet to pass through Merton Council's planning process and more and more residents are looking to the Council to stop this application - there are enough valid objections."
